[OOC: I shouldn't put Eifle 65's blue for a prompt right? I'm winging this so work with me.]
Bamf~
The scent of sulfur was unmistakable and it filled the hanger bay as Kurt Wagner popped into existence and dropped to the floor.
"Mein Gott," he said softly with a groan as he clasps one three fingered hand to his head. That wasn't like usual bamf; it left a weird hum in his head that he didn't understand. Looking around, it didn't seem like any of the little bamfs managed to follow him - which was good. The last thing he needed was bamfs taking over another structure.
But the hanger was familiar. The blackbird wasn't the same and that's what Kurt finds himself frowning at as he circles the jet curiously.
[ ooc: you know I'm now working with that in mind, of course. ]
"I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be in here."
Raven stepped forward from where she'd lingered near the doorway, one slow step at a time. Her mask was on for the time being, that usual face of pale white skin and long blonde waves feeling as comfortable as a broken-in pair of shoes. Not as comfortable as just being in her own skin, but close enough for now.
She had been passing by, just going on a walk by herself - to clear her head - when she'd heard the bamf. It was hard to ignore that kind of sound, especially after she recalled the last time she'd heard it. But this wasn't Azazel; not even close. Not unless Azazel suddenly developed the ability to completely change his appearance as well.
Kurt blinked yellow eyes in surprise over to the new face and after a second, turned to face her. He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly with a little smile. The tech that would give Kurt the same kind of 'normal' cover wasn't exactly on him at the moment; he only picked it up when he had to use it.
The hanger bay was his favorite place to be and there was never a need to hide what he was on these grounds. "I was looking for the Blackbird. This is Professor Xavier's school right?"
Nothing more embarrassing then not knowing where you've come out at and Nightcrawler always knew where he was bamfing too.

At his smile, she offered a little one of her own. She was still a little bit wary, and understandably so; it wasn't every day that someone just showed up in the hangar bay like that. As for a need to hide...
"Would I look this unsurprised to see someone blue otherwise?" Raven asked, a little laugh evident in the last couple of words. After a moment's hesitation, she let the facade slip away, revealing her own blue skin bit by bit, leaving her standing there in the same outfit as before, feeling oddly free. He had a point: it was the school. She had no reason to hide. And why should she?
"What, that jet's not good enough for you? Don't let Hank hear you."
[ ooc: let's go with FC for the sake of the inability to canon review DoFP? Some point near Cuba? Also both prompts are good, and therefore...some combination of the two! We can do it. ]
Things had been getting tense. She wasn't surprised, not with the state of the world and their involvement in it, but it made something as simple as every day life just a little bit more difficult. It was getting more and more obvious to anyone who paid attention that not everyone necessarily agreed with one another on what they should be doing, and the truth of the matter was that Raven was slowly starting to come around to Erik's way of thinking.
Not that she was going to go around bragging about that, or anything. She knew better than to open her mouth about something like that. After all, she'd been hiding her whole life; one more secret wasn't going to kill her.
It just meant that she was spending a little bit more time alone, training by herself instead of with some of the others. She needed the space, she needed the time to think without anyone's outside influence. Especially Erik or Charles'. She was outside that day for that very reason, her blue skin warmed under the sun; she didn't want to have to focus on holding the mask up the whole time, not when there were other things to think about as she ran around the grounds, offering a smile to anyone who passed by.
He hadn't meant to be 'creeping' it's just the guys, while fun even with everything so tense, were still treating it like a game. Himself included, at least around them.
He wasn't even running, instead he was leaning against the stone wall. At first he thought to tease her, after all he teased Hank and Sean, instead he picked up the apple he had brought with him. "Hey Raven, catch." the underhanded toss was easy at least. "Keep it up you're going to make us guys look weak you know."
She wasn't at all surprised that the guys were still treating all of this like a game, and somehow, she found it easy not to judge them. Maybe pity them, just a little bit - it wasn't their fault if they didn't feel the full gravity of it all. But it was probably good in its own right that they didn't.
Yellow eyes flicked over to him when she caught a glimpse of movement in her periphery, and Raven twisted mid-run to snag the apple out of the air, slowing down so she could continue the conversation, amusement playing on her features. "Maybe if you spent more time training, and less time ogling people as they ran, you wouldn't be complaining."
Kurt chuckles, dropping his hand to his side again. "That is tru-" Those yellow eyes went wide with shock as Mystique shifted to her natural blue.
"You're... blue. Like.. like me. Like Beast." It was amazing. He grinned. Beast was the only other mutant Kurt knew that shared his beautiful hue of blue; a color he was most proud of, now. "Please, what is your name?"
She wasn't sure who Beast was - another mutant, obviously - but it was more than a little pleasing to hear that she wasn't the only one. Three. Three mutants who were naturally blue. Just wait until Charles heard that.
"Raven," she told him proudly, chin tipping up a little. He was the first person to ever look pleased by her colouring; Erik didn't count, not when all he wanted was for her to show off her natural self. That was different. "Yours?"
"Kurt Wanger," he started, "But in the Munich Circus they call me the Incredible Nightcrawler!" he finished with a flourishing showmen's bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Raven."
Kurt straightened, still wearing his friendly smile. "So.. you mimic, yes? Can you do anyone?"
Strange as the circumstances were, this was just what she needed: someone new to talk to, someone who understood. "Wait, you're part of a circus? What's your act?"
It was sort of a given that she thought it was a pleasure to meet him. She barely even tried to tamp down her wide smile.
"Shape-shifting, yeah. I think I can do anyone. If I've seen them before, at least."
He ran to catch up. "Hey I can't help it you're the best looking person on the property, even like that." He grinned at her.
"And you haven't seen the bomb shelter lately have you?" It may be best she didn't, the little display of power he did before, was nothing compared to the 'morgue' of mannequins lining the storage room.
"Though if you want someone to help you I wouldn't mind a chance to gt some fresh air." Alex meant it as a friend. "Wouldn't want you in a position you can't defend yourself after all." He was actually saying it without any of his joking tone.
Even like that. The words stung, though you wouldn't know it from the smile that lingered on her lips as she stepped forward to meet him part-way. "No. It's not like I have any reason to go down there." Though at least the place was seeing some action.
She inhaled, letting her abilities take off, replacing blue skin with the more familiar white, and red hair with blonde waves. Never mind that she knew full well that Alex didn't always think about what he said before he said it; if asked, she wanted to practice holding the shift while exerting herself. You never knew when it would come up.
"More than you're already getting? Sure." A beat. "So what're you thinking?"
To be honest he had been talking the sweats and tee-shirt, Brain wasn't thinking blue. "Well not like it's a good idea for me to practice above ground."
He smiled a little at her shift, it was always amazing to watch. "Well, has anyone worked with you on hand to hand fighting yet?" It was something they could do in the yard at least. And if Sean or Hank made a joke about him getting beat by a girl he'd dish it right back at them as long as it kept her safe he'd take the harassment.
iggyyyyyyy | the series with the flying mutant bird kids
It had been a whirlwind of events, to say the least. Ever since he overheard his parents discussing selling him, he'd been on autopilot; packed a bag, jumped out the window, never looked back. For weeks, he roughed it on the streets, dumpster diving and lurking in the shadows. Then he was found, and reluctantly, he agreed to go with the two men who proved to be like him.
Now he was here, not that he was entirely sure what 'here' looked like. It was huge, he'd learned, and he'd heard people talk about green green grass and blue blue sky. But, again, he wasn't entirely sure what either of those looked like, either. But he was sitting on the green green grass beneath a tree, further apart from where everyone else was, wings pulled tight and hidden against his back. He preferred it that way, pulling out handfuls of the grass and stacking it in a pile in front of him.
He might not have meant that, but the blue was always was stuck out to her; it was the first thing that occurred to her. "You could. We have enough land," she replied, her smile curving a little bit wider at the idea of him taking out a few trees. Like free landscaping.
"Not really. I know how to control my powers. It's the rest of you who need all the training," Raven told him, half-teasing. Most of her training could be done independently, and she was all right with that. It wasn't like she couldn't take a break and go check out what the others were doing anyway, if she really wanted, and otherwise, she just got the space that she needed to think. "How'd you learn hand-to-hand fighting? Or should I not even bother asking?"
Kurt straightened proudly. While the Circus ringmaster had done horrible things to him, Kurt couldn't let go of where he had been and wouldn't let go of the few good memories that he had. "I was, many many years ago, as an acrobat."
Kurt jumped and flipped backwards, landing on the wing of the jet behind them. He stood with his arms wide and a bright smile.
"Can... Can you do me?" he asked as he effortlessly hops back down.
She beamed a little more, hands itching to applaud; instead, she settled for a little bounce back on her heels. She had never been to see a circus before, though the students Charles had picked up were pretty close at times.
And then he was requesting she shift into him, and Raven nodded slowly, giving him an intent once-over before shutting her eyes briefly, letting it roll over her. It wasn't that hard to change her skin into his; the hard part was the tail, but with enough concentration, it was an almost effortless shift, so far as she could tell. "Am I close?"
Alex laughed. "Yeah I don't think the Professor would like it if I took out a few trees along the drive. Though it is tempting."
He nodded. "Mostly them. I won't say I'm good though." He shrugged a little at her question though and glanced at her. "You do know where they picked me up right? I prefered solitary, and if I was moved to gen pop I'd make sure not to stay there long. It was fight or kill. And I really didn't like that option." He wasn't looking at her when he spoke. "I think he might have a problem if I taught you more than basics, he does seem more protective of you." It was obvious, but Alex was thinking of trying to keep them safe.
[ once upon a time, she could remember things going well between them, between her and Erik. It was an interesting time, a time far enough ago that it almost gets fuzzy in her brain when she tries to remember it: it's like the actual memory is being diffused through some kind of filter, made more pleasant than it actually was. Raven isn't going to delude herself; she knows full well that Erik is all sharp angles and impossibilities. She knows better than to ask certain things of him, and she always did.
[ it never stopped her from wanting them, but that was just life, she imagines. You can't always get what you want, but sometimes, you get what you need, or so she's heard in recent years. It's fitting. Erik gave her the seeds of thought, of idea; she's acted upon them in her own way, but it was him who gave them to her. It's because of him that she's grown up and out of her shell.
[ she probably does love him, just a little. In that way you love a first love, someone who probably isn't good for you, but you choose anyway. He made her feel special, unique, and most of all, safe. Safe to be herself. Safe in her own exceedingly blue skin. It's not everyone who can do that; Charles failed, and he was her family. Is. Was. She doesn't know any more. He's not dead, but are they still family?
[ it's strange, being faced with him again after so long, and while part of her is still drawn to him, she feels a distance. A split. A wedge, shoved between them by- By something she doesn't even know. She could guess, but for accuracy? She'd rather ask. She won't, though. She never will, she doesn't think. ]
He watched in fascination as her skin rippled to make the slight adjustments to texture and hue, her red hair washing short and to the dark blue that was his hair. The smile on his face grew in wonder and amazement.
"Das ist erstaunlich, mein Fräulein," Kurt said with an appreciative clap. "Yes, exactly close. It's very good! I've never-- well, obviously," he stopped himself with an awkward chuckle. There wasn't going to be a single other mutant like Raven, Kurt knew that much.
"You could ask him. See if there's anything he wants taken out," she suggested, still liking the mental image. After all, Alex couldn't just keep himself holed up in a bomb shelter forever; sooner or later, he'd have to come out and get some practical experience. In landscaping, obviously. Earn his keep, and all that. Either that, or he could make everyone breakfast.
"You're pretty good," she conceded. "And I might have heard a rumour or two." More than a few. Given how few of them there were, the stories of how everyone was found made it around pretty quickly, no matter what Charles did to try and stop it.
Her eyes remained on him even while he didn't look at her, almost as though she was trying to get inside his head a little. She couldn't help but wonder what he thought of all this: if he liked it just because he didn't have to hide away in solitary, or if he actually agreed with what they were trying to do. "Of course he's protective. I'm his sister," Raven replied, her tone only holding a tone of wryness at that fact. "We'll start with the basics. And if I like it, we'll move up from there."
"You know, I think Charles pays someone to mow the lawn," Raven greeted, making her away across the field. She'd seen him from her room, and realised idly that she hadn't really seen him move. Or, for that matter, communicate with any of the others. Considering there weren't exactly a lot of them, that was quite the trick. So either he was overwhelmed by the whole thing, which she wouldn't doubt - Charles and Erik had a way about them that could be a little overwhelming at times - or he was just antisocial. Which begged the question why he was at a burgeoning school for gifted youngsters.
"Either way, I'm pretty sure you don't have to tear it out. I'm not sure that's helping," she went on, laughing softly as she sat herself down next to him, pushing blonde hair back out of her face as she did so. She wasn't aware he couldn't see; she had no idea that her perpetual mask wasn't much good around him. And yet, it was up all the same.
