He liked ice skating. His mother used to take him when he was younger, and he took his sister when his mother was too occupied to do it herself (though this time, he was flying solo). He liked to watch the way everyone thought they were going fast, when really they were moving so awfully slow. So slow that it was almost painful. He could zip between them, completely undetected, and sometimes he liked to untie skates and adjust legs to trip people up, make them crash and burn and embarrass themselves.

He never hurt anybody; it was all just fun.

He spotted Raven across the rink, a pretty face among a lot of boring ones. He didn't notice her just because she was pretty, though. What really caught his generally fleeting attention was the strange cut of her skin. It wasn't normal, all wavering and moving, like the surface of a pond that's just been disturbed. Now that was interesting.

He zipped off the ice, receiving a steaming cup of hot chocolate (something he's never really had a taste for himself; he preferred cold things) from a stand, and more or less appeared at her side, holding it out to her. It was a polite way to precede what he was about to say to her.

"Why does your face look weird?" he asked, the perfect picture of well-taught manners.

"No. I don't usually greet people."

He forced himself to slow down to her speed, something that he found a bit difficult to accomplish. She moved so slow. Everyone moved so slow. Right now, he was moving so slow, and he hated it. He didn't like having to slow himself down, his physical speed, his thoughts, his speech, so everyone else could keep up. He was used to it, sure, but he certainly didn't like it.

Honestly, he wouldn't have bothered, but she looked interesting, and he was bored. He was basically always bored.

"So. Why does your face do that thing?" he asked again, making some strange wiggly-finger-hand-gesture to emphasize. "It's all like, shimmery and weird. But not bad weird. Kinda cool, weird."

"Yes." It wasn't like he tried to hide his mutant status. Oddly enough, it took more energy to act normal than it did to zip around all the time. He honestly gave no fucks about keeping it a secret, never cared when people did double takes at his sudden appearances and blinked in confusion at his just as sudden disappearances.

He looked at her for a second, a frown creasing his brow. "It's a nice face," he assured, like maybe he was a little worried that he might've offended her. His social skills might have been a bit stunted, perhaps. "It's like..." More frowning, some squinting. "Like mesh. Like there's something behind it but I can't see through all the little holes."

For a moment, there was only a faintly awed expression, something curious and interested, before he asked, "What's behind your face? Is it another face? A different face? Is it something else?"
